Indian Federal System: A Bend Towards Cooperative Federalism Or Competitive Federalism?

ABSTRACT

The paper has a focus area on understanding the nature of Indian federalism which can be seen recently shifting towards cooperative and competitive nature of the Centre- state relations. The authors tries to establish the fact that Indian state has significantly been taking steps towards incorporating the new nature of Indian federalism. The paper is dissected into two parts and the first part of the paper introduces the dilemma which has ever since been connected with the nature of Indian federalism and the constitutional provision which support cooperative federalism since its inception. The second part of the paper dwells towards new age policies adopted in India which reflect not only the cooperative nature of the Indian federalism but also competitive nature. There can be seen significant change in the economic aspirations of the country which are reflected by implementation of NITI AYOG and GST, showcasing the new nature of Indian federalism.
