ABSTRACT
India’s border areas have always been a matter of strategic importance for the country’s security and relations with the neighbouring states. The development of infrastructure in these areas plays a crucial role in enhancing connectivity, promoting trade and tourism, and improving the people’s quality of life living in these regions. However, the development of infrastructure in border areas faces numerous challenges such as difficult terrain, security concerns, environmental regulations, and limited resources. The proposed research aims to examine the legal framework for infrastructure projects in border areas of India and its impact on national security and cross- border relations. The study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the concept of “border management,” including infrastructure development, trade and commerce, and security, and identify the different bodies responsible for managing India’s borders. The research will evaluate the effectiveness of various schemes and policies, including Border Infrastructure and Management (BIM) Scheme, implemented by the Indian government for border management and analyze the legal framework for infrastructure development in border areas. The study will assess whether the existing legal framework for infrastructure development adequately addresses national security concerns while promoting economic growth in these regions. Ultimately, the research aims to provide recommendations and suggest measures to improve the management and infrastructure of India’s borders, enhance security, and promote economic growth in these regions.
