ABSTRACT
The prevalence of child pornography and online exploitation of minors presents a critical issue in the digital era, necessitating immediate and thorough intervention. This research paper aims to assess India's legislative framework and initiatives aimed at eliminating child pornography and ensuring online safety for children. The study also examines the existing shortcomings in the legislation and draws comparisons between India's approach and that of other nations. One proposed strategy within the Information Technology Act is to enhance education and awareness surrounding the issue. This involves educating both children and adults about the risks associated with producing, possessing, and distributing child pornography, as well as teaching them how to identify and report such content. Another potential approach is the implementation of more stringent laws and increased penalties for individuals found guilty of related offenses. Collaboration with international organizations and other countries to prevent the global spread of child pornography is also considered effective. Additionally, promoting the use of technical tools to block online access to child pornography is emphasized. It is crucial to acknowledge that eradicating child pornography is a multifaceted and ongoing challenge that requires continuous efforts from governments, law enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the public. The digital threat landscape is dynamic, demanding that countries, including India, adapt their strategies to address emerging challenges effectively. The Information Technology (IT) Act of 2000 serves as the primary legislation in India addressing issues related to information technology and electronic commerce.
