ABSTRACT

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is one of the oldest and bitter territorial conflicts in the recent history of human existence and conflicts, and it has contributed to gross human rights abuses to both sides. This research paper explores the complex legal and humanitarian aspects of these violations with reference to some of the legal provisions governing the conduct of war, the relevant United Nations resolutions and human rights instruments. It gives a clear account of the violations that include Israeli forces and Palestinian actors namely in aspects such as life, security, and an equal treatment, freedom of movement and access to basic elements of life. It also identifies the effects of the conflict on special population groups including children, women and minority people in both Israel and Palestine. In this respect, the paper aims at offering an analysis of the current status of the human rights abuse and how the problem could be addressed framed into the perspective of future accountability and reconciliation processes.
