Human Rights: Protection Against Forced/Bonded Labour

Shreenidhi Shetty, NMIMS University

INTRODUCTION:

The aim of this research paper is to understand how individuals are protected from bonded labour by international conventions and statutory provisions. Furthermore, to study the data provided by the Ministry of Labour and Employment as well as National Crime Records Bureau and analyse the prevalence of this issue in the country of India.

What are Human Rights?

Every individual has dignity and would prefer to live their life with utmost respect. The concept of human rights was drawn up by human beings as a way of ensuring that the dignity of everyone is respected and protected, that is, to ensure that a human being will be able to fully develop and use his qualities and satisfy his or her spiritual needs. Dignity in itself carries a great sense of value and worth. Human rights exist so that people are well aware of each other’s worth. They are universal and inalienable. Denial of such rights would lead to social and political unrest which would ultimately give rise to violence and conflict between societies as well as nations.
