ABSTRACT
Hacktivism: This can be thought of as a digitization of otherwise traditional civil disobedience by the people and groups seeking to protest, cause disruption or raise attention to various social and political issues through cyber means. This paper focuses upon the highly complex legal terrain surrounding hacktivism and how online activism and digital disruptions try to challenge the given existing legal frameworks. It addresses the development of hacktivist tactics, distinguishes hacktivism does not make for cybercrime, and explains key international and regional laws affecting digital activism. The use of distinguished case studies reveals the wide range of legal and ethical questions hacktivism raises regarding freedom of speech, the right to protest, and government surveillance practices. Finally, the article will reflect on the future of hacktivism in the changing cybersecurity landscape and continuing dance between digital liberty and legal responsibility.
