ABSTRACT
Green criminology and environmental justice represent complementary and interconnected disciplines that aim to address environmental issues and promote social equity. Green criminology investigates environmental crimes like wildlife trafficking and pollution, exploring underlying socio-political causes. It merges criminology and sociology, examining power imbalances contributing to environmental harm. In contrast, environmental justice aims for fair distribution of environmental benefits and addresses disparities in impacts on marginalized groups. It advocates for inclusive decision-making and rectifying historical injustices. This article highlights the significance of green criminology and environmental justice in informing strategies for sustainable development. It proceeds to examine methods of addressing these challenges through approaches rooted in the principles of both crime prevention and environmental justice. It also evaluates the limitations associated with these methods and the disparities that exist between legal standards, legitimacy, and justice.
