Ganga River Ecology: The Effect Of Pollution And Mismanagement On Flora And Fauna

Ishaan Deepak Joshi, MIT-WPU, Faculty of Law

ABSTRACT

In the sacred waters of India’s Mighty Rivers, lurks a sinister problem. The country’s rivers, though clean in their appearance, are plagued by pollution and mismanagement. Pollution by massive industries, religious practices, as well as lifestyles is depreciating the health of India’s Ecosystems. From the disappearance of aquatic life to massive issues due to overfishing and invasive species. From up above in the snowy mountains to the creeks and deltas, the Ganges and the life within goes through radical changes while making its way through Civilization. Proper implementation of Government Policies and citizen’s initiatives could help stop the cascading effect and revive India’s Blue Jewels. This research paper undertakes an overview of the impacts of technical interventions on river ecology besides issues and challenges, which the Ganga ecosystem is facing, and recommends immediate actions to maintain the ecological integrity of the river.
