ABSTRACT
Modern criminal justice systems around the world now rely heavily on forensic science, which provides scientific methods for determining facts, evaluating evidence, and ensuring justice. Particularly in the areas of evidence analysis, crime scene investigation, and legal proceedings, forensic science has become increasingly important in India. In order to convict the criminal and clear the innocent, it offers unbiased and trustworthy evidence. But even with its vital significance, there are many obstacles to overcome before forensic science can be used effectively in India. These include inadequate training for law enforcement officers, outmoded infrastructure, the absence of accreditation and standardization for forensic labs, and legal framework deficiencies pertaining to forensic evidence. Delays, contamination, or improper processing of evidence are frequently caused by these difficulties, which can have a negative impact on case results and compromise the administration of justice.
This paper explores the integration of forensic science into India's criminal justice system by examining its impact on investigations and trials. It addresses systemic issues that prevent the effective use of forensic techniques and highlights seminal examples in which they were crucial. Additionally, it suggests changes to improve forensic techniques' efficiency and dependability through the adoption of global best practices, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced stakeholder training initiatives. Forensic science may greatly support India's quest for justice and guarantee just results in criminal trials by tackling these problems in their entirety.
