Finfluencers Under SEBI's Lens

ABSTRACT

On 25 August 2023, the market regulator SEBI proposed two consultation papers to regulate the Finfluencers, restrict their proliferation, and to disrupt the revenue model of these unregistered financial influencers. The consultation paper seeks views from the public on the proposal to share their perspective on the matter.

This article primarily focuses on a concerning issue of how these unregistered financial influencers, often called finfluencer through social media posts, set a trap for retail investors and manipulate the share prices. It explains why SEBI felt a need to regulate these finfluencers.
