ABSTRACT
Agriculture, as a combined sector, is the largest source of income in India, with 70 percent of rural households still relying on agriculture. As we all know, our farmers are protesting against three Acts passed by the Parliament of India and Acts received assent from the president of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, on September 27, 2020. The three Acts were Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
These Acts have received some criticism, which has resulted in protests, and agitated farmers want them repealed because they believe they will not double farmers' income but will instead fill the pockets of corporations.
After much deliberation, our Indian Parliament has finally decided to repeal the three contentious farm laws enacted last year. In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that the legislative process for repeal would be completed during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. He also asked the farmers to return home to their families, effectively ending the protest.
