Exploration Of Indian Legal System From Past To Present

Rashmi Singh Rana & Dr. Ankur Joshi

ABSTRACT

Numerous contemporary studies such as done by Dhavan3, Rocher 4, demonstrate the importance of Indian traditional legal knowledge. Dharma, a more comprehensive notion, served as the foundation for the development of ancient Indian legal philosophy. Ancient legal system was extensive, inclusive, and simple, and it existed in the oral tradition. As Indian civilization underwent numerous changes over time, this system was displaced. Rathore & Goswamy5 believed that in the post-Independence era, indigenous principles & ideas were incorporated into the Anglo- Indian legal system by mentioning the duties and integrating the panchayatraj system under Indian Constitution. In this paper an attempt will made to explore the ancient legal system to identify how & to what extent it was adopted under the Indian Legal System in post independent era.
