Introduction

Medical law is a branch of law that deals with the rights of patients and the rights, duty and obligations of medical professionals. It is not to be confused with medical jurisprudence, which is branch medicine and not branch of law.

Following the passing of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1933, the medical council of India was established as a national level statutory authority for doctors of modern medicine. The Bombay medical practitioner's act, passed in 1938, was the first legal sanction and registration for Indian medical systems.
