ABSTRACT

This research paper highlights a very important issue of ‘accountability of political parties’ that plan to rule or currently rule India. The topic of making the ‘election manifestos of various political parties in India Legally Binding’ gives us a hope that these political parties can be held accountable using such measures. It is through such intensive and strict measures of legal principles, that the diluted sanctity of Indian democracy can be put to the right tracks. The pure notion of Indian democracy decided by the framers of the constitution is being totally reversed into “democratic dictatorship” by maliciously using the election manifestos firstly for providing doles as an investment to the public and then not fulfilling a long list of promises made in manifestos. A political party can never be honestly credible enough to fulfil all the sole promises made by it in its election manifesto, so the enforcement by way of law, on such insincere political parties can ensure at least some level of credibility even if it is for a short period of time. Introducing such a measure is a great challenge for the Indian legal system but it should be made independent of any control by such parties, these measures should be totally put in the hands of honest and accountable institutions such as the honourable Supreme Court of India who takes it as its true responsibility and sole duty of protecting and preserving the interest of its citizens at large and securing the paths of Indian Democracy.
