ABSTRACT
Elder abuse is a significant social concern in India, encompassing various forms of mistreatment and neglect experienced by elderly individuals. The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, represents a pivotal legislative response aimed at addressing elder abuse and promoting the welfare of senior citizens. This research critically examines the effectiveness of the Act in combating elder abuse in India by analyzing its implementation, identifying challenges in enforcement, and assessing its impact on elder abuse incidence. Adopting a case study approach, coupled with document analysis, this study delves into specific instances of the Act's application, stakeholder perspectives, and real-world implications. The analysis reveals both strengths and weaknesses in the Act's provisions, highlighting successes and shortcomings in addressing elder abuse. Additionally, the research evaluates the Act's impact on elder abuse incidence and assesses the effectiveness of legal enforcement mechanisms. By identifying areas for improvement and proposing policy recommendations, this study contributes to enhancing the protection and well-being of elderly individuals in India.
