ABSTRACT

“In the evolving landscape of workplace equity, ‘Empowering Women and Transforming Workplaces: The Menstrual Leave Revolution explores the path to more inclusive, productive, and healthier professional environments.” Bihar introduced a policy in 1992 granting two days of paid menstrual leave monthly. In 2020, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea for nationwide menstrual leave, citing it as a policy matter. Some companies have taken the initiative to introduce such policies, acknowledging the challenges that menstruation can pose for women in the workplace. In 2020, Zomato announced a 10-day paid period leave per year, and other companies such as Swiggy and Byjus followed suit. Menstrual leave policies can benefit women’s health and inclusivity in the workplace, but they may pose challenges like potential misuse and administrative complexity. Balancing these aspects is essential for successful policy implementation. The menstrual leave policies affect the health and hygiene of women, and the potential advantages and drawbacks in their implementation within companies, concerning issues such as workplace productivity, employee morale, and the destigmatization of menstruation. The implementation of menstrual leave policies within companies is expected to have a positive impact on women’s well-being, but it also raises concerns about potential misuse that could have repercussions for the companies. A potential reform might include the establishment of well-defined policy guidelines and the introduction of educational programs to improve the effectiveness of menstrual leave policies within companies. The researcher has undertaken the topic to investigate the impact of menstrual leave policies on women’s health, hygiene, and their effects on companies, focusing on the pros and cons of policy implementation.
