E-Governance As An Anti-Corruption Tool

ABSTRACT

Today, with the rapid advancement in the technology, nations across the world are highly optimistic that e-governance initiatives and measures will be able to drastically reduce and eliminate corruption. The author initially clears the common misconception about what e-government actually is. The present paper then analyses some of the important measures taken by the Indian government to tackle corruption and, also highlights some of the corruption scams which have happened in India and the relevant judicial pronouncements. The paper then compares and contrast the e-governance measures adopted by different nations across the world and highlights the experiences of the governments with it. The author analyses several e- governance initiatives implemented by the Indian government and highlight certain challenges with the new system. Towards the end, certain recommendations have been made on how to effectively reduce and eliminate corruption and how e-governance can be an effective tool for the same.
