CHAPTER-I

INTRODUCTION

Social media has become a very important part of our lives. It is playing one of the most important roles in the fields of globalization as well. Various social media sites like Instagram and Facebook are being used by businesses for better outreach as well. Besides being one of the contributors to the economy, it has become a great source of learning and spreading awareness about social issues among the people, these are a few handfuls of reasons that have contributed to the growth of social media over the years but the main reason which led to the success of it is, its ability to help people stay connected with each other and also help in finding new friends and create groups who share similar interests with each other.

Most of the population that is active on social media are either teenagers or young adults i.e; 13–24-year-olds. It has been witnessed that these people though very much are active on social media but when it comes to face-to-face interaction lack the same confidence making them less socially active in real life. Also, because social media highly promotes toxic positivity many of the active users who also actively engage in posting content on their social media account feel indirectly pressured by it and also feel bad about not having the kind of lifestyle that is promoted on social media.
