ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on almost every area of India's socio-economic-political system, and the judiciary is no exception. In India’s legal system, a vast quantity of pending cases has rendered the entire justice delivery system inoperable. People are being held in prisons for years without being tried. On the other hand, the number of cases filed is increasing by leaps and bounds, while the rate of case disposition is decreasing. Delays and inefficiencies caused by overburdened Indian courts have been a source of concern. As a result, the issues of pendency and delay are extremely important to examine. These trials could go on for days or even years so to avoid this it becomes very essential for the proper management of dockets as they consist of details regarding the judge hearing the matter, including parties, the lawyers engaged, together with the occurrences. It is convenient as all information on the cases is in one place. This paper primarily focuses on docket management, its usage, and the aspects involved in its benefits also shedding light on its flaws as when everything has its positive side it will also have a negative side too. Lastly, it will provide suggestions for proper management of pendency and delays in cases thus for the improvement of docket management.
