ABSTRACT
The emergence of social media has transformed communication, allowing for instant connectivity of information across the globe. However, this digital transformation has also given rise to significant legal and ethical concerns, particularly regarding defamation.1 Traditional defamation laws have struggled to adapt to the complexities of online speech, where contents spread rapidly and remains accessible indefinitely. This paper examines the evolution of defamation law in the context of social media, highlighting key legal precedents, regulatory challenges, and recent developments. It also explores measures to balance protection against defamation while safeguarding free speech, legal reforms, and technological advancements.2 By analysing these aspects, this study underscores the need for a collaborative approach to address online defamation, ensuring that digital platforms remain spaces for responsible discourse without infringing on fundamental rights.
