Cyber Crime Against Women: A Downside Of Technological Advancement

ABSTRACT

Internet is a part of our daily routine, Alexa answers all our queries and even do the household chores for us such as turning on fans and lights. It is the beautiful aspect of 21st century that things have become convenient and time saving for people due to technological advancement. But this is one aspect, the other aspect is development of a new category of crimes i.e. Cyber Crime. They are easier to commit in comparison to traditional crimes. These crimes are done by people who are sitting comfortably in their homes with use of different electronic medium. Women are easier prey of cyber crimes due to their vulnerability factor. Cyber crimes such as stalking, clicking obscene pictures, threatening, cyber bullying etc. because the criminal mostly does these crimes with belief that women won’t complain due to societal fear and shame.

The most peculiar aspect of these crimes is the element of non-detection. Victim and law enforcement agencies might not be even aware about the commission of these crimes. The research paper aims at understanding the nature of cyber crimes, types of cyber crimes in general and also in reference to women. The research includes different laws on cyber crimes as well as some landmark judgments on this issue. The researchers have also included certain suggestions particularly in reference to women victims in combating cyber crimes. The researchers have adhered to doctrinal mode of research with reference to blue book mode of citation.
