Critical Study On The Problems Of The Workers In The Match Industries

ABSTRACT


The match industries play a vital role in the economic development of the country. Since the use of matchsticks and other related match products are used in day-to-day life of the common people. The workers who are all behind the production of the match products have some issues related to their nature of the work. Alike other workers, the workers in the match industries also been protected through the effective legislative provisions. The Indian Constitution provides protection to the workers. The social security legislations such as Employees’ Compensation Act,1923, Employees State Insurance Act, 1948, Employees’ Provident Fund Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, Maternity Benefit Act,1961 are applicable to them. Even the ILO Conventions provides safeguard measures to the workers throughout the world. Apart from the legislative provisions applicable to the workers in the match industries they do face problems due to their working conditions and most importantly they have several health issues due to continuous exposure to the chemicals which has been used in the match manufacturing process. The study deals with the problems faced by the workers in the match industries.
