Critical Analysis Of The Differences And Similarities Between The Ancient And Modern Hindu Laws On Marriage And Succession

Prajwal Gupta, Government Law College

ABSTRACT

The Hindu Code Bill was one of the most important pieces of legislations India ever saw. It was unfortunate that it was never made a law as a whole but had to be broken down. The Hindu Code Bill revolutionized the Hindu Laws by modernizing it and by giving the women equality against the men. The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Hindu Succession Act,1956 were a part of this modernization. This paper deals with the changes brought in the Ancient Hindu Law by the two Acts by critically examining and comparing them on similar topics.
