Corporate Political Responsibility: A Much Needed “CPR” To Corporate Social Responsibility Framework

ABSTRACT

The general aim of this paper is to discuss whether a step up is required by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The CSR frameworks seems to be becoming disposable as it is becoming very easy to surpass and work within the loopholes. This calls for additional threshold of corporate political responsibility which can hold companies accountable and proportionate to the influence they possess. For this we should at Corporate Political Responsibility to complement Corporate Social Responsibility, as part ESG strategies for bigger MNCs. This paper will highlight how companies may invalidate the effect of CSR by indulging with politics and law making as profit making entities. Then paper goes onto to see institutional challenges to concept of CPR Citizen United case of USA and the Electoral Bond scheme of 2018 in India. Finally the paper discusses some sustainable steps towards corporate political responsibility which can be integrated with the current systems in place.
