Constitutional Validity Of Media Trial

Aditi Sanjay, Christ (Deemed to be University)

ABSTRACT

The media can change people's perceptions of specific events, and it plays a vital role in shaping public opinion. Heinous crimes must be condemned, and those who commit them must face legal repercussions, as the media would urge. On the other hand, the media cannot usurp the Judiciary's powers and veer from objective and balanced reporting. While a media enslaved by official laws is bad for democracy, the consequences of continuous impunity are even worse. Steps must be taken to prevent citizen civil rights from eroding by media trials, such as giving the media a more explicit definition of their rights and responsibilities and giving the courts the power to penalize those who flagrantly disrespect them.
