Concept of Social Security: An Analysis of Code on Social Security, 2020

Abstract


The Code on Social Security, 2020 aims at consolidating and amending various existing laws relating to social security. The code extends social security to all employees whether from organized or unorganized sector. The 2020 code contains essential provisions relating to social security that aims at providing various benefits to workers including gig workers. The code is, no doubt a landmark step by law-makers as it has brought in notable changes in the erstwhile Labor legislation. The paper outlines the concept of social security while also highlighting its scope. The paper further discusses about the key changes and highlights of the new code. It examines the various provisions of the earlier acts in light of the changes brought in by the code. The research further examines certain loopholes and implications of the new code while also giving valuable suggestions for the same. The researchers employs writings of various jurists and have referred a number of articles, books, commentaries, notes and other writings to ensure better understanding of the said topic.
