Comparison Between Juvenile Justice System Of India And Belgium

ABSTRACT


According to a report published by Child Rights International Network1 , Belgium topped the list of countries and was declared as having world’s best juvenile justice system among 197 surveyed. The survey was the first venture to study the accessibility of justice to children globally and the countries were ranked according to the extent to which their legal systems effectively guarantee children’s right to access to justice. India’s rank was 43 and score was167 out of 261.Belgium stood out on two main points; First was the child friendly atmosphere in family courts and second was the provision for free youth lawyers. In this paper the author will try to discuss and compare both systems in brief and provide suggestions to improve the juvenile Justice system in India.
