ABSTRACT

The most intensely debated question of constitutional design is that whether the emerging democracies in the contemporary world should embrace parliamentary or presidential archetypes of governance. The parliamentary executive's collaborative and egalitarian position contrasts sharply with the presidential office's prominent individualism. Although they are comparable, in the view of the fact that, both seek to coherently govern the State within a liberal democratic social environment, the parliamentary and presidential systems of government are poles apart in terms of political philosophies and administrative structures.

The modest task of this paper is to theorise the respective attributes of both these anatomy of regimens and draw juxtaposition between three geographic jurisdictions- India, United Kingdom and Unites States.

The authors will study and examine the governmental paradigms of separation and convergence of powers, and attempt to surmise which manifestation will befit the contemporary democracies of the 21st century.
