The National Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2017 (NPMF), the Draught National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy (NIFAP), and the Draft National Mariculture Policy (NMP), along with the Post Harvest components, have been combined into the Government's "National Fisheries Policy, 2020," which is comprehensive and integrated. In this article, we shall discuss the National Fisheries Policy, 2020, its vision, Objectives, Mission, Strategies, and major concerns associated with it. The draft National Fisheries Policy, 2020 has been formulated by merging the three existing policies, i.e., National Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2017 (NPMF), Draft National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy (NIFAP), Draft National Mariculture Policy (NMP).
Background:
The National Fisheries Policy, 2020 of India intends to increase output, diversify resources, and integrate the fisheries industry with other agricultural sectors in order to realise the sector's unrealized potential. The "Blue Economy" sectors are productively integrated into the programme, together with environmental protection and sustainable development. It offers guidance for the best use of fisheries resources and directs state and union territory-level efforts. In order to fulfil the rising demand for fish protein, the strategy encourages a comprehensive approach from mountain to sea, minimising negative effects and assuring sustainable growth.
