1. INTRODUCTION

This paper examines the impact of e-commerce on markets where established firms face competition from focused Internet-based entrants and aims to shed light on how the rise in online purchases has affected prices in comparison to those made in traditional establishments.

Apart from altering the way we communicate, connect, and obtain information, the internet has also altered our purchasing habits. Almost anything can be purchased online and delivered quickly with a few mouse clicks. E-commerce is without a doubt the most important trend in the retail industry, and it is expanding faster than it's ever been. In 2020, e-commerce sales will account for 18% of total retail sales worldwide. In 2024, this figure is expected to rise to 21.8 percent.
