ABSTRACT:

Plastic has illumined and fostered human comfort and life but the chaos that is created by each and every piece of plastic for more than a million of years before its decomposition is massive. The socioeconomic advantages of plastic are far behind to the pollution cost especially through climate change and global warming created by Plastic debris accumulated in the marine environment. Though the hazards are evident before the international community, many of the members of the international community turns their eyes closed selfishly to the peril due to economic advantages and transboundary nature of the pollution without promulgating legislative laws with adequate legal control. Though blanket ban of plastic may not be possible since it would affect millions of people’s livelihood as well as economy of most of the countries of the world, it is high time to tackle the forthcoming catastrophe with sustainable alternatives and international cooperation with adequate legislations. The mitigation of climate change due to plastic debris pollution is possible only through adequate adaptation of international policy formulation, cooperation of various disciplines, promotion of conservationists, scientific enhancements for decomposable alternatives, development of research, cooperation of governments, allocation of sufficient funds, multidimensional strategies of common goals of international community are essential. It is a doctrinal research work which is written to enlighten the hazardous consequences of marine pollution by plastic debris. The ultimate solution to the problem is to have an international legal instrument to curb marine pollution by plastic debris and its appropriate implementation in all countries and all regions of the world.
