ABSTRACT
In India, a class action lawsuit is a kind of litigation that enables several plaintiffs an affordable and effective means to bring a single legal claim against a defendant for the same or a comparable kind of damage. A single person or a small number of people known as the "lead plaintiffs" or “class representatives” bring a case on behalf of the whole group who is also known as the "class members," in a class action. The Code of Civil Procedure was amended in 2019 to incorporate provisions for class action suits, which marked the introduction of the somewhat recent idea of class action lawsuits in India. This paper aims to define class action suits, comprehend their purpose, and demonstrate how they are preferable to individual lawsuits by comparing them with class action lawsuits. This paper discusses the Satyam controversy, which necessitated the initiation of a class action lawsuit. The study of the class action lawsuit provision of Section 245 of the 2013 Companies Act is clearly explained in this paper. Moreover, the author tries to provide helpful strategies and crucial road maps for class action lawsuits for later utilization.
