Censorship Laws On OTT Platforms

ABSTRACT

The full form of OTT platform is ‘Over the Top’. In this many types of medias will be included which gives streaming videos. The main function of the OTT platforms is content hosting. But People now hardly admit to Going to the movies or watching television Everyone is so engrossed in various internet platforms that the days of merely consuming video content on television or in movie theatres are long gone. OTT platforms are the new source of entertainment and there are no rules, regulations or any other restrictions in this platform.

The theatre enhances the large screen viewing experience by providing the best acoustic and visual results. The well-built ambiance in theatres was the sole source of visual acuity offered in any film. With the rise of digital technology, hand held gadgets have evolved with astonishing capabilities that create a pleasant and comfortable environment for watching movies. In the previous decade, OTT platforms have grown in importance. The rise of digital gadgets is helping to propel the OTT platform forward. The greatest benefit is access to OTT platforms, which can be accessed from anywhere and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In India, programming was delivered via OTT platform in 20 different languages, depending on regional preferences.

The Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) regulates theatrical releases in India, which was formed under the Cinematographic Act of 1952, because theatrical releases are restricted owing to lockdown, manufacturers are resorting to OTT channels, which are well-liked by audiences for the convenience they bring. As a result, there was more content on OTT platforms, which sparked a debate regarding OTT platform censorship. The goal of this research paper is to identify various types of OTT platform censorship around the world. The censoring regulation will be compared to the OTT platform regulation in India. The world's largest Internet media market is OTT platforms. As a result, various countries around the world have influence over OTT services.
