ABSTRACT
The Government of India (GOI) passed the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Act in January 2019 to provide support and opportunities. EWS Act supports increasing employment opportunities and benefits by providing 10% reservation for placement in educational institutions.
This research paper investigates the concept of caste-based reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) in India. It examines the rationale behind implementing caste-based reservations, analyses the impact on social mobility, economic empowerment, and social cohesion. The paper also explores the challenges and criticisms associated with caste-based reservations for EWS, along with potential alternative approaches to address social inequities. By critically examining the existing system, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding caste-based reservations and propose strategies for a more inclusive and equitable society.
