INTRODUCTION

In a democracy like India, the legislature has always played an important role in developing policies. However, due to the overwhelming burden, the Parliament decided to delegate several powers to the government for easier legislative execution. This imposes an unavoidable responsibility on the legislature to monitor how the executive branch performs the functions allocated to it. It has the legal authority to supervise the executive and, in the event of any misuse or abuse of power, to sanction the executive's unauthorised activities.

To accomplish this, the legislature employs two measures:

1. Laying of Delegated Legislation on table

2. Examination of Delegated Legislation by Scrutiny Committees
