Case Analysis: Amish Devgan Vs Union Of India

ABSTRACT

This case talks about two judge bench of Supreme Court refused to grant relief from the criminal proceedings against a television journalist named Amish devgan.

In this case Amish devgan used offensive language against a Muslim saint. He is presently the managing director of many news channels owned and operated by tv18 broadcast ltd. Including many news channel like News18 MP/CG, UP/Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.

It was on the debate show hosted by Amish Devgan on June 15, 2020 during the discussion on place of worship act 1991 which “prohibits conversion and provides for maintenance of the religious character of places of worship as it existed on 15 august 1947” he used hate speech hozrat moinuddin chisti a Muslim saint which was said that he was trying to spread hatred towards Muslim.
