ABSTRACT
Sports are emblematic of collegiality, respect and discipline. These skills are not only useful while playing in the field but also in our life. Sports teach an individual many life lessons. These lessons are incorporated by the coach who acts as a teacher for any sportsperson. They teach a sportsperson how to deal with failure, how to stay confident and be buoyant. But sometimes, the coach can become the only problem in a sportsperson’s life, especially for female athletes. Many fresher’s or young female athletes come from destitute circumstances, leaving miles away from their homes. When such females are harassed or abused, they do not even try to raise their voices against such persons of authority due to fear of their careers being destroyed. The main issue is the use of power by coaches or any other head of sports. This problem becomes even worse when such an individual is also a politician. This can worsen the case by deteriorating the interest of female athletes and the public fighting by itself. There are many other issues besides sexual harassment and abuse, which female sportsperson faces daily like less pay, partiality in awards, male athletes being given preference over female and many others. This article accentuates the causes and potential initiations that can be taken by the government or the society to eliminate such harassment and abuse from the sports industry.
