ABSTRACT
Abortion has always been a taboo subject in our society. It is the method of terminating a pregnancy where the embryo or foetus, and the placenta, are removed from the uterus using medication or surgery. Although abortion is legal in India, it is only permitted when the mother's physical or mental health is at potential danger, or when the health of the growing baby is at danger, or when a woman becomes pregnant as a consequence of rape or contraception failure according to the legislature. Recently, The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act of 2021 came into effect on September 24, 2021, after long and deliberate debates in both the parliament houses. The Act modifies the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act of 1971 (the "MTP Act"), which earlier governed the conditions in which medical termination of pregnancy is permitted.
