ABSTRACT

Crime is an inalienable part of society and every society work to minimise it as much as possible. However it is not an easy task to accomplish, that’s why we have a specialised and well trained department to control and restrict criminal activities which we all are with as Police Department. The core duty of police is to maintain law and order and to investigate criminal cases in order to collect evidence and witness to solve the case and help in criminal justice delivery system. But we have seen all around the world that behaviour of police towards people is not so pleasant and some time they are accused of misusing their power, India is also not untouched with this. Public perspective towards police is not so good people tends to stay away from police, it is so because police behave rudely with people and it also apparent that they are corrupt and cruel towards common people. But is it a recent phenomenon and what are the reasons that police behave in such a way, how the image of police can be improved in the eyes of people. It is very necessary that people such trust police and police works and behaviour towards people be at least satisfactory. In this paper, I intend to discuss the reasons which construe police behaviour in a way we are aware with and also the different commission report and its recommendations to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and behaviour of police.
