Authorities Established Under The Disaster Management Act, 2005

ABSTRACT


The paper analyses the institutional structures and policies that have been adopted for managing disasters in India. The research has been pursued with an aim to understand the Disaster Management Act, 2005. It will give a better understanding of the framework of the Act. A detailed analysis of Authorities established under the Disaster Management Act will help in understanding the importance of managing disasters in a planned and co-ordinated manner that has a response team in all levels of governance. The paper begins with a brief introduction about the reasons behind the establishment of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 with the paper elaborating on the National Disaster Management Authority , State Disaster Management Authority and the District Disaster Management Authority.
