Mamta Devasi, Symbiosis Law School, Pune

ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence is currently transforming many domains of the global society with significant concerns to the field of international law. This research paper examines the relationship that the emerging technology, AI has with international laws and policy. It explores its opportunities and threats to effecting a change in conventional legal paradigms that it offers. We are therefore inclined to focus on the extent to which it is possible to extend the meaning of the international regulations to accommodate the implications of AI technologies, the ethical issues of the application of artificial intelligence and the interplay between sovereignty and human rights.

This paper will extract existing literature sourced on periodicals, books, and reports to explain how the international law is adapting to AI’s presence. Finally, it provides an analysis of major shortcomings in existing legal instruments and gives suggestions to discover and establish effective international norms regarding the new technological threats. Finally, the paper advocates for active inclusion of the AI concerns into the international legal frameworks so that there is a harmonization between adoption of the new technologies and legal responses.
