Ananya Choudhury, Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar

ABSTRACT

The idea of crimes against women is becoming more and more prevalent. Women's lives have definitely suffered as a result, resulting in both physical and emotional suffering. This paper analyzes important criminological theories, such as attachment theory, social control theory of crime, routine activities theory, self-control theory, and relationship goal pursuit theory, to clarify the underlying mechanisms motivating stalking perpetration. This paper attempts to analyse stalking through the lens of criminological theories of crime in order to throw light on why these type of crimes take place due to certain people in our society and to understand how important these theories are in order to find out ways to prevent stalking and other crimes emanating from it. This can aid in efforts to prevent crime as well. Law enforcement and the police can use a variety of tactics to accomplish this goal. They have an obligation to not only identify and apprehend criminals but also to stop crimes from happening in the first place. These criminological theories aid in examining the motivations behind criminal activity as well as the social concerns that must be resolved in order to deter future crimes.
