Darshan Eugene, BBA.LLB, St. Joseph’s College of Law

ABSTRACT

Bias perspectives of people across the world have a global impact on the rising and alarming crime rates. The phenomenon of hate crimes has diverse understandings yet the lack of precision of what a hate crime is, is still debatable. The diverse forms of discrimination and evil acts on the vulnerable communities happening in the name of ethnic cleansing including racial, sexual, and even xenophobic violence. These extreme forms of violence often involve systematic attempts to eliminate or displace an entire population. On the other hand, the result of being prejudiced or hostile towards someone’s disability, or sexual orientation including transgender identities has a negative societal impact and personal damage for minorities and discriminated groups. Reflections of hatred are though done by almost everyone in a lesser degree of brutality as hate speech and obscene behaviors depicting the victims, these crimes are done in large numbers. Such diabolical approaches to brutality are taken by humans who claim to have power over the weaker sections. As the paper delves into dealing with certain specific hate crimes that supposedly might sow seeds for future war or terrorism, it also helps to understand the complications in handling such crimes. Despite measures taken to avoid and control hate crimes, the emotional urge leading to unstable minds of any individual or group causing hate is inevitable.

Keywords: hate, crimes, discrimination, violence, victims.
