Analysis Of FIR With Case Judgment

Zulekha Begum, LL.B Amity Law School, Lucknow, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh.

INTRODUCTION

FIR, which stands for "First Information Report," is a crucial legal document prepared and registered by the police upon receiving information about the occurrence of a cognizable offense. It plays a vital role in the criminal justice systems of various countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. When an individual wishes to report a crime, they approach the police station and provide detailed information about the offense. This information is then recorded in the FIR, which includes essential details such as the nature of the offense, the date, time, and location of the incident, the identity of the complainant, and any other pertinent information. If available, statements from witnesses are also included in the FIR.
