Analysing The Impact Of International Labour Standards On India's Labour Practices

Suryadevara Mounish Chanukya, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur

ABSTRACT

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has been working towards promoting decent work and social justice for all workers worldwide. As a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO), India has committed to complying with various conventions, codes, and guidelines related to labour practices. However, the implementation of these international labour standards in India is not without its challenges. Some of the significant obstacles include a lack of awareness among workers about their rights, inadequate monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, and resistance from employers. Despite India's ratification of these conventions, effective implementation remains a key concern. Hence, the aim of this study is to analyse how international labour standards have affected labour practices in India. The research findings indicate that both workers and employers need to be more aware of international labour standards, and that there is a requirement to strengthen monitoring and enforcement measures. The study ultimately concludes that international labour standards have had a positive impact on labour practices in India, and suggests measures to overcome the challenges faced in their implementation.
