An Overview Of Fantasy Sports: A Road To Entertainment Or Addiction?

ABSTRACT


“Every Sports obsessed who could not fulfill his dream of being a professional sports player seeks to be a part of the glory by being in the game”. With the advent of technological advancements, the commercialization of sports, the growth of the popular sports of the globe, and most importantly the world becoming a global village, such is the rise of Sports Enthusiasts. Fantasy Gaming is one such product of the Term “Sports” which right from young school-going to college-going students to working professionals has been explored. The Authors in the present Article aim to give an all-encompassing explanation of Fantasy Sports and the problems that may occur. The Legalities surrounding Fantasy Sports have been stated in brief. Interpretations of the ‘Game of Skill or Chance’ by the Hon’ble Courts in various judgments which prove to be a crucial part for the future of Fantasy Sports have been submitted. The Authors have also given the legal status of Fantasy Sports in different parts of India and an International outlook. The problem of ‘Addiction’ may have harmful effects on the minds of the user and thus being the crucial aspect of the Article, the authors have mentioned illustrations showcasing the ill effects of addiction and the regulations which may prevent the problem from occurring, procuring Fantasy Sports as a powerhouse of entertainment in India and Worldwide.
