INTRODUCTION:

In India, giving and taking dowry is very common, but now it has become a big problem today for every family that has a girl child. In India the situation for a girl is different from the western world, as in most cases they are not allowed to choose a husband for themselves. The perception from a long time is that if a girl child is born, it is regarded as sad news for her family that a girl is born because from the birth of girl child, her parents start collecting money for her marriage and dowry.1 Everyone speaks about ‘beti bachao beti padhao’ but a girl after achieving everything in her life cannot escape from dowry, sometimes in various cases, families have killed their daughters at birth due to the dowry system, as they think that if their daughter survives, then it will create problem for them in future. In many cases, the families kill the child in the mother’s womb due to the shackles of dowry. However, one needs to understand that there is no fault of a girl in these things for which she is being wrongfully treated, it is the fault of society and not the girl, which continues to demand dowry even today.
