ABSTRACT
A child is born innocent and if nurtured with tender care and attention, then he/she grows in a positive way. Physical, mental, moral and spiritual development of the children makes them capable of realising his/her fullest potential. On the contrary, harmful surroundings, negligence of basic needs, wrong company and other abuses may turn a child to a delinquent. Crime rate is increasing day by day in India and the most shocking trend that can be noticed is that it is increasing among Juveniles too. Criminal cases of all sorts ranging from thefts to murder or smuggling to sexual crimes are committed by them. Juveniles are humans below the age of 18. We are constantly reminded that there are problems with juvenile violence. Juvenile delinquency is a serious offence and it is detrimental for the social order in any country. There is a trend of increase in juvenile crimes world-over, with more and more involvement of the youth in violent crimes. India shows similar trends of increasing rates of violent crimes committed by juveniles. It is a very serious concern for the nation and solutions to end the problem need to be sought very carefully. This main objective of the paper is to understand juvenile delinquency and to examine the factors affecting juvenile delinquency. The sample size of the research is 200 samples. The statistical tools used in the research were clustered bar charts and one way anova. It is found that juvenile delinquency is prevalent in India and is increasing at a higher pace.
