Sanchita.S, B.Com LLB (Hons), Sastra University

ABSTRACT

It has been established that mergers and acquisitions are a successful tool for business restructuring efforts. One of the most lucrative and quickly expanding sectors is telecommunications. The second-largest telecommunications industry in the world is found in India. It has a subscriber base 1183.51 billion users, an internet subscriber base of 604.21 million, and the revenue generated by the telecom sector is around Rs 185,291 crore. Vodafone and Idea announced their merger in 2017, which made a huge impact in the Indian telecom sector. This was a significant result of Jio's growing industry dominance, which encouraged other large competitors to take risky actions to keep their position in the Indian telecom market. In terms of subscriber number, Idea Cellular Limited has the third- largest customer base in India, behind only Vodafone India, which was the second-largest participant in the country's telecom industry. Idea Cellular was a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group.
