An Analysis Of The Present Situation In Nagaland

Yash Janghu, BB.A., LL.B., North Cap University

Introduction

Tensions have risen in the Moan region of Nagaland since 4 December 2021 after a dispute broke out between para commandoes and residents of Nagaland as a result of Section 144 CrPC namely; to prevent the gathering of four or more persons in a certain place, is prescribed. Which led to the famous Hornbill Festival of Nagaland also being cancelled.

On the night of December 5, 2021, the soldiers were lurking on the basis of reliable information on the possible movements of the Konyak terrorist group. A project was scheduled to take place at Tire in the region of Moan. But according to complaints lodged by citizens at the police station, they stated that the “intent” of the security forces was to ‘kill and injure civilians.’ It should be noted that neither the police commander nor the military did any request at the police station. It was therefore clear from the citizens that the security forces intended to kill and injure the civilians. But it should be noted that during these operations of central government-linked ambassadors the security forces are trying to exclude regional police as seen in many terrorist cases.
